The Huvitz Auto Refractor HRK-8000A (Coburn Technologies) is a robust auto refractor and keratometer that features an advanced contact lens fitting function. This elite technology can take optometrists to the next level with regard to analyzing patients' vision.
Advanced Wavefront Diagnostics Measurements are based on the Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor, which analyzes light reflected from the retina and the refractive power. The device provides basic data like sphere, cylinder and axis, as well as higher order aberration data such as coma, trefoil, spherical aberration, secondary astigmatism, and tetrafoil. High order aberration data is displayed in a graphical Zernike refraction map.
Easy To Use The interface is a user-friendly touchscreen so you can quickly move through modules. The button-activated motorized chin rest moves up and down which eliminates the need to reach around to adjust the patient. Auto tracking follows the pupil during measurements in order to provide quick and accurate results. Another great feature is the ability to take anterior segment photographs of the eye. Corneal ulcers or neovascularization from contact lens wear can be captured in full color for the patient's file.
Getting the Right Fit Peripheral keratometry readings allow you to analyze a patient's corneal curvatures, which is helpful for specialized contact lens fitting. Another unique feature of the Huvitz Auto Refractor HRK-8000A is the ability to apply a cobalt blue filter in order to visualize fluorescein liquid. This is helpful for fitting rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses. The resulting image can be sent to the lab for analysis or added to the patient’s chart for documentation purposes.
Network Friendly The device has great connectivity features for seamless integration. Data from the Huvitz Auto Refractor HRK-8000A is sent to the EMR system or can be synced with other devices in the Huvitz Digital Refraction System. For example, if you have other Huvitz instruments, like their auto phoropter, data will pre-populate in the HRK-8000A prior to doing your refractions.
High Recommendation I find this instrument to be an excellent piece of equipment, especially if you're starting a new practice. If there were one feature that I could add, it would be a placido disk topographer. This would measure corneal curvature more accurately, and when combined with wavefront, would provide an excellent idea of how the cornea is affecting the eye.
