For use in conjunction with cataract surgery for the reduction of IOP in adult patients with mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma currently treated with ocular hypotensive medication
Creates a channel through trabecular meshwork to enable aqueous humor to flow from the anterior chamber into the Schlemm’s canal
Treatment of mild to moderate glaucoma at the time of cataract surgery in patients as indicated
Great way to do a combined cataract and glaucoma surgery! You can easily lower your patient's IOP without the trauma associated with traditional filtering procedures.
Very atraumatic insertion after the initial learning curve. Excellent safety profile. My patients have averaged 1.5 medication decrease concurrent with cataract surgery.
The iStent has an excellent safety profile. Even for novice surgeons, it requires very little additional time added to traditional cataract surgery. Patients who are taking only 1 glaucoma medication, in my opinion, benefit most since they have the added convenience of not having to do medications daily.
Like the idea and the engineering. Still in the learning curve.
